Last night saw the prestigious Recruiter Awards for Excellence take place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, which were another fantastic celebration of industry achievements. Anderson Group was delighted once again to support the awards as headline sponsor and be part of such an inspirational event.
Winners included our industry’s leaders, achievers and innovators, who should all be immensely proud of their success. Congratulations to everyone who reached the podium and thank you to the Recruiter team for creating yet another special occasion for everyone to enjoy.
The awards were a chance to reflect on what has been an incredibly challenging year for many in the temporary recruitment industry. And if last year was tough – this year looks set to shake its very foundations. With such fundamental legislative change heaped upon the recruitment community, the impact on the UK’s temporary labour supply chain will prove to be seismic
Major change to the tax treatment of Travel and Subsistence expenses, changes to the rules affecting Salary Sacrifice, and an even greater focus on the humble Limited Company – these measures are all having a huge impact on agencies, hirers, contractors and intermediaries alike. It is still early days to gauge the long term impact of all this change but the question can certainly be asked now: ‘What is the future of contracting in the UK’?
At the sharp end of this upheaval, many agencies are still busy considering their options and lining-up possible new solutions. Interestingly, at a series of ‘roundtable discussions’ recently hosted by Anderson on this subject, agencies were unanimous in their belief that there is still much work to be done to cope with legislative change. But most also agreed that the dust has yet to fully settle.
Many outlined plans to examine new routes to maximise profits, such as an increased focus on outsourcing non-core activities to help reduce overheads. This is an area that Anderson Group has been busy working in, creating a range of products and services to help agencies remain compliant, cut operating costs and remain profitable.
What has been particularly heartening, in the face of what must feel like an unparalleled HMRC attack on the contracting industry, has been the resilience, hard work and determination being generated across the sector, to deal with the new recruitment landscape taking shape.
It is this type of determination that no doubt helped last night’s winners collect their well-deserved trophies. Congratulations once again to you all.
